TheRealMrHolland must be reviewing the wrong newsreel. I don't see any "brainwashing tripe." This newsreel is just a fairly straightforward report.

It did start the space race but the Cold War which was already at its peak. The Hungarian Revolution, Berlin Airlift, Rosenberg trial, Iron Curtain, and Khrushchev's "we will bury you" speech were already facts of life.

This class filmreel of the Russian's getting the first satellite is THE CLASSIC brainwashing tripe that was put out to brain wash Americans that there was a great communist threat. Read about history and you'll see that the founders of Russia's Communist movement were financially backed by weatlhy western interests. Now ask yourself "why" they would do that.

An odd newsreel clip reporting on the launch of Sputnik. Since this was done in secret by the USSR, U-I resorted to recycling some earlier animation explaining how geosynchronic orbits work. Note the IBM logo on the computers when a space operator is shown. You can't help but notice a certain degree of begrudging admoration in the voice of the announcer that the feat was able to be pulled off in the first place.

The animation is suitably quirky enough it will look great recycled again.
